Nosiah Raulito Santos was 17 years old and lived in Marion County, Florida. He was known to his family and those who loved him as a young man full of life. His mother, Lydia Albino, was his last phone call. On the afternoon of May 30, 2025, Nosiah called her and asked her to come get him. She drove 15 miles to reach her son and stayed on the phone with him as the situation at the gas station unfolded. She arrived to find him already shot.
Nosiah had been in a relationship with Henry Valencia for approximately four months, having met him through a dating app. In the week before his death, Valencia had gone through Nosiah's phone and become jealous. On May 30, Nosiah made the decision to end the relationship. He told Valencia, while on the phone with his mother, that the situation was causing him too much emotional distress and that he did not want to be with him anymore. He was waiting for his mother to arrive when he was shot.
Nosiah's funeral was handled by Chandler's Funeral Home. He was 17 years old.
On May 30, 2025, at approximately 2:24 p.m., Marion County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the Petro Gas Station on Highway 318 near Interstate 75 for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found 17-year-old Nosiah Santos lying on the ground next to a gas pump suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper torso. Marion County Fire and Rescue transported him to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he was pronounced dead.
Nosiah and Valencia had arrived at the gas station together and began arguing. Valencia initially drove away from the pump, abandoning Nosiah, but returned and continued to confront him multiple times. Gas station surveillance footage captured the full incident. Witnesses on scene observed Nosiah sit down and hold his face in his hands as Valencia continued to yell at him. When Nosiah appeared to disengage from the argument, Valencia retrieved a firearm from his vehicle, returned to Nosiah, and shot him. After firing, he struck Nosiah in the head multiple times before returning to his car and driving back to Jacksonville.
Nosiah was on the phone with his mother, Lydia Albino, throughout much of the confrontation. She heard her son tell Valencia he no longer wanted to be in the relationship before the call disconnected. She arrived at the gas station to find her son had already been shot. A bystander at the scene had recorded video footage of Valencia fleeing after the shooting, which was collected as evidence.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene within minutes of the shooting. Evidence gathered at the Petro Gas Station on Highway 318 included gas station surveillance footage capturing the full sequence of events, a bystander video recording Valencia fleeing the scene after the shooting, witness statements from people who observed the confrontation, and physical evidence at the pump where Nosiah fell.
Nosiah's mother, Lydia Albino, who had been on the phone with her son during the final moments of the confrontation, provided a firsthand account to investigators. She heard Nosiah tell Valencia he no longer wanted to be in the relationship and heard the call disconnect. She arrived at the scene while the situation was still unfolding. Her testimony was central to the prosecution's case.
Valencia was located at his Jacksonville home the same day, in the process of loading his belongings into a vehicle. The Major Crimes Unit formally arrested him on July 11, 2025, after completing the investigation. He was held without bond. The case was prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, Fifth Judicial Circuit, Florida.
Nosiah Raulito Santos was 17 years old. He did the right thing. When the situation became dangerous, he called his mother and asked her to come get him. He stood at a gas pump in the Florida afternoon and waited. He told the person who was threatening him that he was done, that the relationship was over, that his mother was on her way. He tried to disengage. He did everything a person is supposed to do when they feel unsafe.
His mother drove 15 miles to reach him and stayed on the phone with him as he waited. She heard her son's voice in the moments before he was shot. That is a weight that cannot be measured. Nosiah deserved to get into his mother's car that afternoon and drive away. He deserved to be 17 years old with his whole life ahead of him.
Henry Jonathan Valencia was convicted by a jury of his peers on December 11, 2025, and sentenced to life in prison. Nosiah Santos was 17. He is not forgotten.
