Jordan Lashelle Fitzpatrick was 15 years old and lived in Tuskegee, Alabama, a city in Macon County in central Alabama. She had been living with a family member at the time she disappeared. She was reported missing on March 22, 2023.
For more than two years, Jordan's remains lay unidentified in a Montgomery morgue. She had been found behind a building five months after she disappeared, her body so extensively burned that the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences could not identify her at the time. She was a teenager, and for two years the world did not know she had been found, and her family did not know what had happened to her.
Tuskegee is a historically significant city in Alabama, home to Tuskegee University and the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen. It is a small city of approximately 8,000 people. Jordan was a child from that community. Not enough is publicly known about her life. Her family shared photos and cooperated with investigators. Her case deserves to be solved.
Jordan Lashelle Fitzpatrick was last seen in Macon County, Alabama, around March 22, 2023. A family member she had been living with in Tuskegee reported her missing. The circumstances surrounding her disappearance are not publicly known. No information about how she came to be in Montgomery has been released.
On August 18, 2023, five months after Jordan was last seen, Montgomery Police responded to a report of human remains found behind a building in the 2300 block of Poplar Street in Montgomery. The remains were those of a person whose body had been extensively burned. Due to the degree of the burns, investigators could not immediately identify the victim. An autopsy established that the manner of death was homicide. The remains were preserved and the case was opened as an unidentified homicide.
In 2025, a genetic genealogy report was shared with the Montgomery County District Attorney's Cold Case Unit. Using that report, investigators located a DNA profile belonging to Jordan Lashelle Fitzpatrick. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences analyzed and compared that profile against DNA taken at the time of the original autopsy and made a positive identification on September 25, 2025. Montgomery County District Attorney Azzie Oliver and Macon County District Attorney Mike Segrest publicly announced the identification in October 2025 and appealed to the public for information. No suspect has been publicly identified and no arrest has been made.
The original 2023 investigation established the cause of death as homicide through autopsy but could not identify the victim due to the extent of the burns. The case was preserved as an unidentified homicide. In 2025, the Montgomery County DA's Cold Case Unit obtained a genetic genealogy report that provided a DNA lead. The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences compared that lead against the autopsy DNA and made a positive match to Jordan Lashelle Fitzpatrick.
The investigation is being handled jointly by the Montgomery County DA's office and Macon County DA Mike Segrest, reflecting the multi-jurisdictional nature of the case. Jordan was from Tuskegee in Macon County but her remains were found in Montgomery County.
As of March 2026, no suspect has been publicly identified and no arrest has been made. The investigation is active. The DA's office is asking anyone who has any information about Jordan, about her whereabouts between March and August 2023, or about the circumstances of her death to come forward.
