Victim One

Danielle Latesha Hoyle

Danielle Latesha Hoyle was 27 years old and lived in Whitehaven, Memphis, Tennessee. She was a team member at FedEx and a devoted mother to her 10-year-old daughter Jariyah, who her grandmother April Campbell described as her mother's best friend. Danielle was known for her vibrant and generous spirit. April said there was never a dull moment with her, that she talked so loud everybody could hear her, and that she was missed by everybody who knew her.

Danielle was excited about Kennedy's arrival. She sent ultrasound photos to her mother and the whole family gathered supplies in anticipation of the birth. Kennedy arrived two weeks early on January 31, 2022. Danielle had only two days with her daughter before both of their lives were taken.

She was laid to rest on February 19, 2022, at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis. Her casket was red, her favorite color, adorned with red roses. FedEx released a public statement: "We are shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of our team member and her newborn baby."

Victim Two

Kennedy Hoyle

Kennedy Hoyle was born on January 31, 2022, two weeks before her due date. She was two days old when she was killed. In the hours between her birth and her death, her grandmother April Campbell and extended family came to the hospital to meet her, hold her, and take pictures with her. April said she only got one hour with her seventh grandchild. After the verdict, she said that was the first full night of sleep she had gotten in three years.

Kennedy was last seen wearing a black and white polka dot onesie with pink pants. She had brown hair and brown eyes. Her car seat was later found abandoned at a Whitehaven Walmart. A baby hat belonging to her was found near the water at Mud Island. Her body was not recovered despite an extensive multi-agency search of the Mississippi River.

The prosecution said at sentencing that Kennedy should be three years old. She should be growing, learning, getting into things. She is forever frozen in time, not even two days old. Judge Addison sentenced Brandon Isabelle to 45 additional years, one year for every hour Kennedy was alive.

Background

What We Know

Danielle Hoyle and Brandon Isabelle met while both working at FedEx in Memphis. They had a brief relationship that resulted in Danielle becoming pregnant with Kennedy. Danielle ended the relationship with Isabelle early in her pregnancy. At the time of Kennedy's birth, Isabelle was married to another woman and had a five-year-old child, and was also in an on-and-off relationship with a coworker named Artesha Stewart. During Danielle's pregnancy, Isabelle had pressured her to have an abortion. He also sent her threatening messages.

Kennedy was born on January 31, 2022, two weeks before her due date. Isabelle was present at the hospital for the birth, while simultaneously texting Stewart about their relationship. On February 1, 2022, Danielle and Kennedy were discharged from the hospital and returned home. April Campbell and extended family visited and spent approximately one hour with Kennedy. Danielle then told her mother she needed to return to the hospital for a discharge-related issue. She left with Kennedy. She was going to meet Isabelle.

Isabelle had told Danielle he wanted to give her baby clothes and arranged to meet her at a Mapco convenience store. He then convinced her to drive to a desolate stretch of road in the Whitehaven area, near Sedgewick Drive and Levi Road. As Danielle parked, Isabelle approached her vehicle, opened the passenger door, and fired five shots into the car, striking her in the face and the head. He dragged her body from the car and left her face down in a muddy ditch. Kennedy, still in her car seat, remained in the vehicle.

Isabelle took Kennedy out of Danielle's car and placed her in his own vehicle. He drove to his parents' home in Cordova, changed his clothes, and left Kennedy alone in the car while he did so. He then drove to the Upper Mud Island Boat Launch along the Mississippi River and threw his two-day-old daughter into the water. He threw the gun in after her. He then drove to a Walmart and discarded Kennedy's car seat in a dumpster. He subsequently went to a Walgreens and purchased gifts for Stewart. February 1, 2022 was Brandon Isabelle's 25th birthday. Kennedy's body has never been recovered.

Investigation

The Investigation

The Memphis Police Department opened the investigation on the night of February 1, 2022, after an officer discovered Danielle Hoyle's abandoned vehicle on Sedgewick Drive. Danielle's body was found nearby with a gunshot wound to the head. Kennedy was not present at the scene. A multi-agency search immediately began: Memphis Police, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, and a dive team searched the Mississippi River near Mud Island for the infant. An Amber Alert was issued the following morning.

Brandon Isabelle was identified as a suspect and detained on February 2. Sergeant Jacoba Boyd of the Memphis Police Department led the interrogation, which lasted approximately three hours. Isabelle's account changed multiple times; he initially claimed he had met Danielle at a Mapco gas station to exchange baby clothes, a story that fell apart under questioning. Boyd testified that Isabelle appeared relaxed during the interrogation and slept during breaks. He eventually admitted to shooting Danielle and throwing Kennedy into the Mississippi River. He told investigators he threw Kennedy into the river because he did not want to be a single parent. He also took investigators to the river and pointed out where he had thrown her; searchers found only a baby hat near the water.

The forensic investigation was extensive. TBI Special Agent Michael Garner of the Digital Forensics Team extracted and analyzed data from cell phones belonging to Isabelle, Danielle Hoyle, and Artesha Stewart. GPS data from Isabelle's phone mapped his movements from midnight on February 1 through the early hours of February 2, tracing his route to Whitehaven, to Cordova, and to Mud Island. Video surveillance confirmed his presence at the Walmart dumpster where Kennedy's car seat was discarded, and at the Walgreens where he purchased gifts for Stewart after the killings. Forensic pathologist Dr. Scott Collier performed Danielle's autopsy and confirmed she died of five gunshot wounds.

The recorded confession was played for the jury at trial. Lead investigator Brian O'Nan testified about the scene and the physical evidence. Despite extensive search efforts along the Mississippi River, Kennedy's body was never found. Investigators stated the search for her remains would continue. At trial, the prosecution presented over 30 witnesses across seven days, and Isabelle's own recorded confession formed a central part of the state's case.

At sentencing, Isabelle took the stand and addressed the court, stating: "These things that I go through every day, they eat me up inside. These tragic proceedings do hurt. I understand what I did, and I take full ownership of what I did." Danielle's sister's victim impact letter was read aloud: "The happiest day of my life turned into the worst day of my life. Brandon, if you didn't want her, you should've just stayed away. She was going to be loved regardless."

"The fact of the matter is this: this world is darker because Danielle and Kennedy Hoyle are not here." — Judge Carlyn Addison, November 2025

In Memoriam

They Are Not Forgotten

Danielle Hoyle was 27 years old. She worked at FedEx. She had a 10-year-old daughter named Jariyah who was her best friend. She had just given birth. She was excited. She sent ultrasound photos to her mother. She went to meet a man who told her he had baby clothes. She drove down a dark road. She was shot five times and left face down in the mud.

Kennedy Hoyle was two days old. She had been held by her grandmother and her aunts and her cousins. She had been in photographs. She had been in the world for 45 hours. Her body was never found.

Jariyah lost her mother and her baby sister on the same night. She cried every day. She was too scared to come to court. April Campbell said she had not slept in three years. The night Isabelle was found guilty, she got her first full night of sleep.

Kennedy was going to be loved regardless. That is what her aunt said. She was going to be loved regardless of what anyone else wanted. She is not forgotten. Neither is her mother.

"Kennedy will forever be frozen in time. Kennedy Hoyle should be three years old. She should be growing. Learning. Getting into things. Driving her mom, Danielle, and her grandma, April, crazy."
