Brittany Ambose Tee was 35 years old, a Brookfield resident known to her community as caring, funny, and full of warmth. To her niece and nephew she was the adored "fun aunt." Her friend Matti Sjoblom described her as someone who made an impact on everyone she touched: caring, funny, loving, kind, hard-working. She had previously worked as a manager at Bay Path Spirits, a liquor store in Brookfield, where she was a familiar and well-liked presence.
Brittany had struggled with alcohol for about two years before her disappearance, a battle she and her family were open about. By December 2022, her sister Bethany said Brittany seemed to have turned a corner. She was applying for jobs, looking forward, and by Christmas that year, Bethany said, "I felt like she was back to normal. Like my sister was back." Two weeks after that Christmas, Brittany disappeared.
On the evening of January 10, 2023, Brittany called her mother from her boyfriend's cell phone. She told her she was upset about something she didn't want to discuss, and that she was heading to her mother's house in Spencer. She left on foot — her own car was not working. She removed the SIM card from her phone but took the phone itself, along with her iPad and wallet. She was never seen again.
At approximately 8:30 PM on January 10, 2023, Brittany Tee walked away from the home she shared with her boyfriend on Main Street in Brookfield, Massachusetts. She was last seen heading in the direction of Lewis Field. She planned to walk to her mother's house in Spencer. That walk would have been approximately six miles. She never arrived. Before leaving, she removed the SIM card from her cell phone and left it behind, but took the phone itself, her iPad, and her wallet.
Her boyfriend did not report her missing. On Thursday evening, January 12, Brittany's mother texted her boyfriend asking if Brittany was okay because she wasn't answering her phone. He called back and said he thought she was with her family. That exchange set off the alarm. Her family reported her missing to Brookfield Police on January 13, 2023, three days after she disappeared. Surveillance footage from January 6 showing Brittany in the area was later released by investigators. No footage from the night of January 10 has been publicly shared.
Investigators have stated that the case is not being treated as a criminal matter and that all parties, including Brittany's boyfriend, have cooperated fully. No person of interest has been named. Brittany's family has said privately that they believe something happened to her and that she would not have left voluntarily. The SIM card removal and the circumstances of her leaving — on foot in January, upset, without a working car — have raised ongoing questions within the community about what those final hours looked like.
The investigation is led by the Massachusetts State Police, the Brookfield Police Department, and the Worcester County District Attorney's Office, with private investigation support from Private Investigations for the Missing since late 2024. In the weeks immediately following Brittany's disappearance, law enforcement deployed one of the most extensive searches conducted in the region in recent memory: over 250 acres searched on foot, by air, and underwater, spanning multiple jurisdictions. Despite that scale and three years of continued investigation, Brittany has not been found.
The Worcester County DA has consistently stated the case is not being treated as a criminal investigation and that all parties cooperated. No person of interest has been identified publicly. However, Brittany's family has been transparent that they do not believe she left voluntarily. Several details have drawn attention from observers: the removal of her SIM card before leaving, the fact that she was walking six miles in January without a working car, the three-day delay before anyone reported her missing, and the fact that her boyfriend did not report her absence at all.
Investigators contacted both Apple and Facebook in the early days of the case to recover digital data. Surveillance footage from days before the disappearance was released but nothing from the night itself has been made public. Brittany Tee was 35 years old. She was funny and caring and loved her niece and nephew. She was the friend who showed up for concerts and car rides and sunsets. She was working her way back from a hard stretch in her life and, by all accounts, she had made it. Christmas 2022, her family said, was the best they had seen her in years. She was herself again. And then she walked out into a January night and disappeared.
Three years have passed. Her mother Susan has said she will not stop. Her sister Bethany has spoken publicly again and again, carrying the grief of not knowing, not because it helps her but because Brittany deserves to be named and remembered and searched for. A whole community has gathered in the dark on the Brookfield Common multiple times now to say that they have not moved on. Worcester DA Joseph Early has said they will not stop. A private investigator took on the case two years in and said there are still names to pursue and conversations to have.
Someone in Brookfield or Spencer or the towns between them knows something about what happened on the night of January 10, 2023. The tip line is 508-453-7589. Anonymous tips are accepted. Brittany Tee is not forgotten.
